Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Carpenter and D Smith

There were no declarations of interests.

The Board was given an opportunity to consider and comment upon a review undertaken by the Crime and Disorder Panel on a proposal to adopt Public Place Protection Orders in relation to dogs. The Chairman of the Crime and Disorder Panel presented the Panel’s findings and answered any questions raised. The Neighbourhood Support Team Leader was invited to join the meeting and answer any questions raised in relation to the Panel’s findings.

The Committee was advised that the recommendations of the Panel had been endorsed by the Cabinet on 15 March 2017 and would be submitted for approval by the Council on 29 March 2017.

In response to questions raised, the Committee noted that:

(a)             the designation of the children’s play areas would be subject to further consultation with ward councillors;

(b)             it was not intended that play areas adjacent to trails and walks be designated as children’s play areas;

(c)             the Orders would enable authorised officers to require a dog owner to put their dog on a lead; and

(d)             the Orders would not enable the Council to control dogs within the curtilage of houses.

RECOMMENDED that the Council adopt the recommendations of the Cabinet as set out in minute 69/3/2017.
