The Council has adopted an “executive” form of governance. This means that the Full Council appoints a Leader of the Council.
The Leader is the leading political figurehead for the Council as a whole and the principal political spokesperson for the Administration. The Leader’s role is to provide strong, clear political leadership in the co-ordination of Council policies, strategies and service delivery.
The Leader appoints a Cabinet of up to 9 other Councillors and decides the scheme of delegation in respect of executive functions and may authorise the Cabinet, a committee of Cabinet, Cabinet members or officers to exercise executive functions from time to time.
